Explore somatic movement for your best health and wellbeing

Regulating the nervous system in somatic therapy can help you:

  • Reduce anxiety and hypervigilance by shifting out of fight/flight and into a calmer state.

  • Improve emotional stability (fewer overwhelm spikes, more resilience and choice).

  • Support trauma recovery by increasing safety in the body and widening your “window of tolerance.”

  • Ease physical symptoms like muscle tension, pain, headaches, digestive upset, and fatigue linked to chronic stress.

  • Sleep better through improved settling, breath, and parasympathetic activation.

  • Think more clearly (better focus, decision-making, and reduced brain fog).

  • Strengthen relationships via better co-regulation, boundaries, and reduced reactivity.

  • Reconnect to the body (interoception/proprioception), supporting alignment, movement efficiency, and confidence.

  • Deepen spiritual grounding—more presence, inner steadiness, and connection to intuition/meaning.

Somatic Therapy in Brixham,

Devon and Online

Hi! I'm Carol, I’m a trauma‑informed counsellor registered with BACP, cert 3 clinical somatic practitioner, and yoga therapist with a clinical background as a Community Psychiatric Nurse and General Nurse. Since retiring from the NHS in 2020 I now work in the private sector offering somatic and yoga therapy, and counselling, supporting people of all ages with trauma, anxiety, depression, pain, and alignment issues. Through 1:1 sessions and group classes, I blend somatic practices, yoga therapy, and counselling You can work with me online or in person.

As an accredited counsellor, I specialise in anxiety management and healing from trauma. On discovering somatics, I saw great improvements for clients as they learned how to regulate the nervous system with the release of jawline tension and breathwork. My mission is to empower you with the skills to release tension, pain, manage anxiety, restore natural movement patterns and empower you to activate optimal health within the body.

How Somatic Therapy Works

Carol uses a gentle, effective approach through mindful exercises done sitting, lying or standing. The aim is for you to teach your own muscles and fascia to release tension and recalibrate your nervous system. The impact of this is to feel relaxed and less anxious, helping you to release accumulated muscle tension so you can feel more connected to self and move with ease.

Based on the work of Thomas Hanna, Somatic movement therapy encourages you to be an active participant in your healing, giving you tools to manage chronic pain and stiffness independently.

How We’ll Work Together

Somatic movement therapy is flexible and adaptable. Sessions can be held in person or online, on a mat, chair, or Somatics table. Through each session, I will guide you in reconnecting with your body, releasing habitual tension, and restoring freedom in your movement.

Whether you're seeking relief from chronic tension, managing stress or nurturing your overall well-being, discover the offer that best suits your needs.
